PCL 6 Support

(As of 3.4.001.01)

PCL 6 uses a compact binary protocol that, compared to PCL5's escape-sequence commands, is easier to work with when diagnosing or adjusting output.

Benefits

PCL 6 provides the following benefits:

• Faster processing and printing
• More efficient, compact printer output
• More precise content positioning
• Support for tighter print margins, subject to the printer’s physical printable area

Limitations

Because PCL 6 output is binary, DocOrigin cannot currently insert or modify the custom printer commands supported by the PCL 5 driver. The following features are not supported with PCL 6 output:

• Custom printer options that require PJL or PCL escape sequences, including stapling and other finishing options
• DocOrigin Stitching feature 
• Downloadable fonts
• Image-based or printer-specific secure-printing font solutions, including those used for signatures, logos, or other protected content, as well as proprietary resident-font systems such as TROY security-printer font mechanisms where check signatures or images are provided through printer-controlled font resources
