FormConvert
DocOrigin supplies a non-GUI program called "FormConvert", which can be used to convert IFD, XDP, CFP6, or PDF files to XATW format. Most form conversions should be processed through the Eclipse Form Conversion Service (EFCS). However, Adobe LiveCycle XDP and Bottomline Create!form CFP6 files can also be opened directly in DocOrigin Design, providing a starting point for template development.
Adobe LiveCycle XDP Conversion
Because Adobe LiveCycle replaced the original Adobe Output Central solution, FormConvert provides advanced support for converting LiveCycle XDP templates, including:
Pages as form pages
Subforms as panes
Objects within a subform retained as child objects of the corresponding pane
Fields as fields, including picture formatting
Variable and Fixed barcodes as barcode fields
- Draw objects as the corresponding label objects, including text, rectangles, lines, and images
- Floating fields within text objects as embedded fields in text labels
- Tables as tables
- Images as images
Note: The image filename and path are retained. Because LiveCycle commonly uses relative paths, the image path may require correction. - Fragment links as fragment links
- Fields with captions as separate text labels and fields
- Formatting, including fonts, point sizes, colors, line weights, and paragraph spacing
- Store the field's default text string as its initial value.
- Scripts associated with objects copied into the corresponding DocOrigin object scripts as commented text
Bottomline Create!form CFP6 Conversion
(As of 3.4.001.01)
Each CFP6 page style is converted to a separate Form Page, retaining its page size and margins. FormConvert supports the following CFP6 objects and features:
Page styles as separate form pages, including page size and margins
- Sections as panes
- Parent-child relationships, with objects placed within the appropriate pane using their relative positions
- Fixed text as text labels
- Variable fields as fields
- Fixed barcodes as barcode labels
- Variable barcodes as variable fields
- Graphics such as lines and boxes
- Embedded text containing field variables
- Named image placeholders
- Applicable object properties, including object names, positions, fonts, colors, and variable mappings
- Text, currency, number, and date formats
- Scripts associated with objects are copied into the corresponding DocOrigin object scripts as commented text.
For both XDPs and CFP6 files, conditions and scripts are retained for reference but are not converted automatically. They must be reviewed and rewritten as required for the DocOrigin environment.
